Emergency management by definition is the managerial function charged with creating the framework within which communities reduce vulnerabilities to hazards and cope with disasters.

VISION

Emergency Management seeks to promote safer, less vulnerable communities with the capacity to cope with hazards and disasters.

MISSION

Emergency Management protects communities by coordinating and intergrating all activities necessary to build, sustain, and improve the capability to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to, and recover from threatened or actual natural disasters, acts of terrorism, or other man-made disasters.

College Park Outdoor Emergency Warning System

The City of College Park utilizes the Whelen Outdoor Emergency Warning Siren System, with five siren locations providing citywide outdoor coverage. This system delivers early warnings and emergency notifications to individuals outdoors, urging them to seek immediate shelter when necessary.

Siren Testing

  • Schedule: Every Wednesday at 12:00 PM
  • Test Details: The siren test includes a voice message before and after stating:
“This is a test of the College Park Emergency Warning System.”

Residents and businesses are encouraged to use this time to review and practice emergency preparedness plans.

Emergency Preparedness for Pets

Emergencies can happen at any time. Planning ahead ensures the safety and well-being of your pets during evacuations or disasters.

Step 1: Arrange a Safe Haven

  • Never leave pets behind. Identify pet-friendly shelters, veterinary offices, or trusted individuals who can provide care.
  • Research hotels and motels outside the area that allow pets in case relocation is necessary.

Step 2: Prepare an Emergency Pet Kit

A well-stocked kit should be easily accessible and include:

  • Pet first-aid kit and guide
  • Three to seven days of food and bottled water
  • Medications and medical records in waterproof containers
  • Leash, harness, and ID tags
  • Travel crate and comfort items
  • Waste disposal bags and cleaning supplies

Regularly update supplies, replacing food and medications every two months.
