The College Park Police Department is happy to announce we are bringing back the Citizen’s Police Academy starting September 10, 2024, and ending on November 12, 2024.

The Citizen’s Police Academy is a ten-week program designed to provide community members with an overview of how their local Police Department works. The academy will give students insight into the basics of police work, the logistics of department operations, and its enforcement and crime prevention programs.

The goal of the Citizen’s Police Academy is not only to help community members better understand police work in their community, but to also develop stronger ties between the department and the community. Community Based Policing is a vital aspect of crime control in any community. It is through community cooperation and planning that we can best ensure quality police services in an organized effective crime prevention effort. The Citizens’ Police Academy is designed to inform the community of what we do, improve communication, and obtain citizen input, assistance, and support.

The Citizen’s Police Academy program will be offered, to twenty (20) members of the College Park community.

Topics Covered Include:

  • Purpose and Mission of Department

  • Law Enforcement Technology

  • Communications and 911 System

  • Patrol Division

  • Criminal Investigations

  • Use of Force

  • Firearms Training

  • Judgmental Simulator

  • Community Engagement

The class will meet every Tuesday from 6:00 pm- 9:00 pm with one exception instead of November 5 (Voting Day) the academy will take place on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. and will be held at 3717 College St., College Park, GA 30337.

Classes are limited and free of charge but involve a commitment to attend all sessions. Please carefully review the schedule to ensure you can commit.

Participants must be at least 21 years of age. A criminal background check is required for all applicants and the Police Department reserves the right to deny enrollment to those with a criminal history.
